Neurodiversity + Design

Research indicates that companies that hire for neurodiversity are more profitable AND more innovative. I’ve been mentoring students who self-identify as neurodivergent, whether that is autism, ADHD, dyslexia or a combination. I am consistently impressed with skills they bring to their work and the lens through which they solve problems. I am specifically interested in how the design industry can evolve to both embrace and nurture neurodiverse talent.

“How to Name + Visually Brand a New Business”

In this workshop I worked with 100+ AMA student attendees on how to name and brand a new business framed through the lens of diversity, equity and inclusion. This sprint-style workshop gave each attendee a chance to work both individually and in teams—practicing ideation techniques and prototyping their concepts for immediate feedback.

Our session, where more than 50% of the audience self-identified as neurodivergent. I am at the podium discussing how neurotypical people can resist “thin slice judgements” when encountering neurodiverse individuals.
